Pain and The Curable App

Hello and Happy Spring! This is the Yarrow and You Therapeutic Bodywork Blog

…where I discuss topics relevant to mind-body wellness and tips for helping the body heal. My name is Heather Alison Cook and I am a therapeutic bodywork practitioner/massage therapist specializing in craniosacral therapy, polarity therapy, cupping, myofascial/structural bodywork, and massage. I am located in the historic town of Aurora, Oregon about 20 minutes from Oregon City.

Pain! UGH! Pain?! Yes, let’s talk about it! Understanding pain and the science behind…

…it is complex and multifaceted—it involves both physical and psychological factors. Pain often arises by nociceptors, special neurons that alert the brain that there is tissue damage. But other factors like previous experiences, mood, stress, and emotions can amplify, dampen or even nullify the perception of pain. This means the perception of pain is not solely determined by the extent to which the tissues are damaged…and that the perception of pain can be changed!!!

Studies have shown that with chronic pain,

…the brain alters itself in structure and function and that this can affect how pain persists and/or is amplified.  Because the brain has neuroplasticity– it can be rewired and change the perception of pain and therefore how we experience it.

Have you heard of The Curable App?

This app that can be downloaded onto your phone is getting great reviews about how it is helping folks with pain management. The Curable App uses techniques and exercises based on the brain’s ability to reorganize, restructure, and rewire itself in response to experiences. The science-backed exercises in cognitive reframing, mindfulness, relaxation, writing, and meditation help to change the way we feel pain and can reduce symptoms and improve overall well-being.

I do not receive a commission for talking about The Curable App (though I might look into it because I’ve been telling so many people about it lately!) I even checked out the course for myself. Please let me know if you’d like to try it—As a bodywork practitioner, I can send you a free 6-week trial to see if it’s something you’d like to explore further. I have had multiple clients report outstanding results by using the techniques.

Getting regular bodywork can also help gain better alignment and reduce pain

…as well but this seems to get to more of the root of the issue! and helps your body and brain change the way pain is being perceived–which is completely amazing and hopeful to me. As a bodyworker of 12+ years who works on bodies that are in pain every day, I am so happy that this app is helping so many people reduce their pain. Feel free or book a bodywork session here at Yarrow and You Therapeutic Bodywork!

Enjoy the Sunshine!
